Starting Project Forty 200
Greetings, folks! I’m Andrew Flynn, and I’m quite overweight. [Hello, Andrew!] There, I’ve said it. Fat. And there’s no taking it back.
I started this project (and the title should be self-explanatory) to provide some accountability, to me and to any readers happening by, during a prolonged health initiative. Essentially, I’m challenging myself to lose enough weight so that I’ll be 200 pounds by the time I turn 40, which is in December of 2010. So I have just under two years in which to do this. Currently I’m weighing between 282 and 285 pounds, so we have a long way to go.
In creating this blog I hope to have a record of my approaches, successes, failures, and hopefully reader suggestions as well. I’ll also try to detail some of my health history, provide reviews of techniques and strategies, and provide links to helpful resources found along the way.
Please keep in mind that this is not purely a weight-loss quest. I’m hoping to lose weight as a by-product of living a healthier lifestyle, both from traditional and non-traditional methods. Additionally, I’m also hoping to live well. Being trapped in a diet regime is no fun at all, and can really lead to the body consciously and sub-consciously seeking revenge causing a bounce-back effect. I’m looking forward to trying new foods, learning to cook properly, mastering exercise techniques and generally becoming a more “whole” person – while hopefully that “whole” becomes smaller.
A lot of people start exercise programs or dieting as part of a New Year’s resolution, which generally is abandoned within a few weeks. For this effort, the timing was coincidental. Yes, I did wait until all of my expanded family had returned home from their visits during the holidays, but I was mentally preparing a few weeks back on my 38th birthday. Since then, I’ve started adding some new exercise and health blogs to my RSS feed reader, started a weight and exercise tracking system, and have procured some nice quality cookware for the new cooking adventure (Calphalon One Nonstick, dontchaknow).
So welcome to the Forty 200 project, and I hope you’ll be rooting for me on this journey. Who knows? This may kick-start someone else into becoming healthier as well. Enjoy!
